John Taylor
ohn Taylor has pursued painterly abstraction for a considerable period, certainly after studying in New York , in the late 1980s. Educated at the University Of Melbourne where he majored in Art History and English Literature, the Victorian College Of The Arts where graduated in painting and Christ College where he received a graduate diploma in Arts Education. To view a Taylor work is an enthralling engagement: the dynamic conversation between form, shape and line , the mercurial brushwork and the bold contrasts between colours, produce a captivating visual experience. Each work is constructed over time, layers of oil are scratched back, revealing textures and images previously lost. His inspiration is often imaginary theatrical sets or ballet stages, where intense interaction and dialogue are played out. Exhibiting regularly since the early 2000s Taylor’s works are held in collections across Australia, Canada and the United States. Proudly he is represented by Martin Allen Antiques.
